The Still RX70 wins Germany’s top Eco-design award
Federal Eco Design award 2012The Still RX70 Hybrid forklift has been awarded the ‘Federal Eco-design Award’ for excellent and ecological design, in the presence of 200 guests in Berlin. This award was presented for the first time by the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Federal Environment Agency.
“The Federal Eco-design Award is for products which are designed to avoid any harmful environmental effects. The award is of special value to Gwent Mechanical Handling and STILL because it honours not only the individual product but the whole underlying philosophy, for which Gwent Mechanical have the ISO 18001 Environmental Management award.
The optical design of the RX70 Hybrid has been developed with the internationally successful design agency ‘Teams Design.’ The truck is fitted with a diesel-electric drive and is propelled by energy from a diesel tank as well as energy storage systems called ultra-caps. These capacitors are able to store large amounts of energy and when the brakes are applied, the energy is released when needed. This reduces the work load of the combustion engine which will therefore consume less fuel and significantly reduce CO² emissions by up to 20%. This makes it by far the most economic truck in its class. 95% of the truck’s materials are recyclable, this combined with eco-friendly production processes and the energy saving programme Blue-Q make this product worthy of the Federal Eco-design Award.
The ‘Federal Eco-design Award’ is divided into three categories: ‘Product’, ‘Concept’ and ‘Young Talent.’ The panel of renowned design and ecology experts elected the winners (in the individual categories) from a total of 140 nominees. German Environmental minister Peter Altmaier was the patron of the award ceremony. He opened the event with a welcome speech in which he complimented the companies on their unique contributions to economy, environmental responsibility and design.
